About the Tournament

The WWPSA Sunburst Tournament is a New Jersey Youth Soccer sanctioned unrestricted tournament. U.S. Youth Soccer player passes and U.S. Club passes are permitted. West Windsor is located in Central New Jersey and is easily accessible by several major interstate highways.

Sunburst Tournament fees 2012

Small-sided teams (U8-U10 boys & girls), $460 and Full-sided teams (U11-U16 girls, U11-U19 boys), $505

• Over 240 teams come from New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, equating to approximately 8,000-10,000 attendees over 2 days!
• All teams are guaranteed four games (two on Saturday and two on Sunday).
• Professional referees hired for all games with three-person referee crew utilized for all U-11 to U-17 games. 
• Field marshals are stationed at every field, allowing for a well-organized event.
• Medical teams are on-site at each location with an ambulance on standby, if necessary. 
• Trophies are distributed to first- and second-place teams in each age group.
• Teams can earn GotSoccer points.
• Nike has committed to help create a festive atmosphere. Together, we are working to generate excitement before and during the tournament, with attractions such as an interactive zone, equipment testing and more.
• Professional soccer player/s attend to sign autographs and take pictures with attendees.
• Various local venders attend the tournament, offering food, drinks, merchandise and more!
• Sunburst merchandise is available at all facilities!
• Plenty of parking is available to accommodate teams and spectators.
• Many hotels are located nearby for attendees to spend the weekend, which further enhances the experience!

• Each year, WWPSA will award a maximum of four (4) scholarships
• Each scholarship will have a minimum value of $500 and a maximum value of $1,000.

Qualification Criteria

• Must be a registered WWPSA player during either the fall or spring soccer season during the year of graduation
• Must be a graduating high school senior
• Must have applied for attendance at a two- or four-year college or university
• Must have been associated with WWPSA as a player or a referee for at least six (6) seasons
• The Scholarship Committee can verify the criteria submitted on the application.

Evaluation Criteria

• Historical and current participation within WWPSA: indicate the program and team for each year
• Historical and current participation within soccer community outside WWPSA, e.g., referee, school teams, other clubs, winter / summer trainer, ODP, etc.
• Anticipated future involvement in soccer: explain how will the applicant represent the club as an alumni.

References

• Provide a minimum of two (2) non-family references.

West Windsor-Plainsboro Soccer Association (WWPSA) is proud to announce the inaugural year of the “WWPSA 3v3 Cup”!

Affiliated with Kick It 3v3 Soccer, the one-day tournaments will be a fast-paced and fun way to stay sharp during the summer, with teams receiving qualifying points towards Kick It 3v3 Regional Tournaments! 

Each team is guaranteed five 24-minute games during the day, with 3-4 pool games and playoffs! 

The tournament is open to all teams aged U7 to U18 – Girls’ teams will play on Saturday, August 4^th and Boys on Sunday, August 5^th. Registration is just $180 per team, for a roster of up to 6 players.

The Certification procedure is fairly short, convenient and FREE. It is done online, in the comfort of your home. Participants view a 20-minute video followed by several review questions about what they have watched, then print a certificate that is provided after the questions are properly answered. The only equipment you will need is online access on a computer attached to a printer. The script and quiz are available in Spanish and English.

WWPSA supports this initiative. It is certainly recognized as a critical issue throughout all sports (as any NFL fan can attest), and it is imperative that we all become better educated in what concussions are, how to spot what might be a consussion and what to do if we suspect a player has sustained a concussion. Taking this free training is good for everyone involved in youth sports.

New youth soccer research from the University of Connecticut and serious cases of heat illness in other sports over the past few years has prompted the U.S. Soccer Federation to issue an updated version of its “Youth Soccer Heat Stress Guidelines.” The aim is to help parents, young athletes and coaches understand one of the most common and most preventable sports injuries: heat-related illnesses, including dehydration, heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Here are physiological/psychological reasons placing children at risk:

1) Children absorb more heat from a hot environment because they have a greater surface area to body-mass ratio than adults. The smaller the child, the faster they absorb heat.
2) Children and adolescents may have a reduced ability to lose heat through sweating
3) During prolonged exercise, children and adolescents frequently do not have the physiological drive to drink enough fluids to replenish sweat losses.
4) Youth athletes may be more easily distracted when they should be resting and rehydrating.
5) Some youth athletes may be under intense pressure to make a competitive squad and may not want to report feelings of heat distress or take the appropriate amount of time to rehydrate.
