Originally named the WWP Twisters, the WWP Challenge team was formed in 2004 when the age group began full-sided play at U11. The original roster was selected from the three WWP small-sided teams including the Freedom (Scott Borsack - Coach), the Jaguars (Kevin McKenzie – Coach) and the Stingrays (Pat Young - Coach). From the beginning, as the WWPSA premier team in the age group, the Challenge has always strived to present its players with opportunities to have fun and develop friendships, yet pursue their love of the game through the necessary hard work, commitment, teamwork and skill development required to participate at some of the highest levels of competitive league and tournament play in youth soccer. As a result, over the years, the Challenge achieved several notable accomplishments including:
· At the time as a U11 team, being the youngest WWPSA team to join the MAPS/JAGS league.
· Between U12 and U18 being considered one of the top 10 teams in the state, with the team’s highest ranking during this period being #43 in the nation, #10 in Region 1 (US Northeast), and #4 in the State Of New Jersey.
· Only WWPSA team to ever compete in the Region 1 Premier League.
· Only WWPSA team to ever compete in the Region 1 Colonial League.
· New Jersey Youth Soccer National Championship Series semi-finalist once, quarterfinalist once and Round of 16 three times.
· US Club New Jersey State Cup finalist once.
· Gaining acceptance and having success at national level tournaments such as the CASL Showcase (NC), Jefferson Cup (VA) and The Score Showcase (NC).
· Representing WWPSA at 48 tournaments in 9 different states over the 8 year period.
· Over the years the team’s roster has included multiple ODP (Olympic Development Program) members as well as members of competitive adult amateur teams.
· During their high school freshmen year, 15 of the 18 players on the team’s roster earned varsity letters including multiple starters.
· Multiple players received recognition during their outstanding four-year high school careers including:
o Melissa Seidner – All-State, All-Prep, Mercer “33”, Four-time Team Leading Scorer
o Heather Deamond – National Association for Girls and Women in Sport - Women Of The Year, All-State, All-CVC, Mercer “33”, Team Captain, Team MVP, Outstanding Team Freshmen

o Deanna Columbia – All-Division
o Melissa Bishop – All-Conference, All-County, Team Captain, Team MVP

· Between U11 and U18, the Challenge’s roster has included 54 different players, of which 28 players will continue to play soccer as college student-athletes.
The WWPSA and the Challenge Coaches, Managers, Players and Parents would like to thank all those who have helped, encouraged and supported the Challenge over the years. Many people have played a significant role in the Challenge’s development and success, most notably: professional coaches Pat McCarry, Kate Dwyer, Tony Buchler, Anne Mäkinen and volunteers Earl Deamond, Mark Campellone, Chuck Ruggeri, Terry Lamplugh.
