Girls Travel Development Academy

Welcome to the inaugural season of WWPSA Travel Development Academy (TDA)!  The WWPSA is very excited about this program and hope that the kids are also.  A lot of effort has been put into getting this program up and running and it will continue through the season.  To keep this program moving, we will need your help.  Below are details regarding documents, uniforms, practice/game times, and volunteer opportunities.

Documentation

Before Sept 8th, the first day of practice, a copy of the girl’s birth certificate and the medical form.  Below is the link for the medical form.  It does not need to be notarized.

Your child cannot participate without these 2 forms.  Please scan and e-mail the forms (PDF format) to girlstda@wwpsa.org.

Uniforms

Uniforms will be distributed Sept 8th, Sept 10th, and Sept 13th before the practice/game.  I am looking for volunteers to help distribute the uniforms.

Practice

Practice will be as follows at West Windsor Community Park Full-sided field 2:

Group A:Mondays 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm, Wednesday 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Group B: Mondays 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm, Wednesday 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm

Game Time

Saturdays 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Volunteer Opportunities

Please note that, with few exceptions, the WWPSA is a volunteer-run organization.  Regarding TDA, only the trainers and the referees are paid.  To keep this program humming, we need your help.  Below is the list of volunteer opportunities:

Uniform distribution (hand out uniforms) – at least 2
Team supervisors (not coaching, but subbing the girls in and out) – 1 per team
Practice day assistants (walking the girls to the bathroom, shoelace patrol) – at least 2 per session
Game day assistants (walking the girls to the bathroom, helping keep field safe)  – at least 4 per weekend
“Festival Day” assistants – everyone

Individually, each volunteer opportunity listed above does not require much effort or time commitment so, if possible, please do not limit yourself to 1 volunteer opportunity.

If you have an interest in doing more for TDA or for WWPSA, please let me know.  The pay stinks, but the fringe benefits are awesome!

More on TDA

Below are some details on the program:

  • Nick Harrison and team will be the girls trainers.  There will be 2 trainers at each practice session and 1 trainer on game day to observe and teach.
  • Referees on game day will provide instruction.
  • Teams will be formed before Sept 20th.  Prior sessions will be used to evaluate girls to form 4 equally skilled teams.
  • The goal is for essentially equal playing time.  That may not happen in a given game, but should be achievable over the course of the season.
  • When subbing, team supervisors are expected to move kids in and out based on the order on the team roster regardless of ability.
  • Festival Days are mini tournaments with other TDA teams in the area (Yardley, Montgomery, and Princeton).  We expect to host on Oct 25th.

A few things to remember

We will adhere to the Set A Good Example (SAGE) pledge.  Essentially, we want to always try to be positive and encouraging towards all the teams, referees, and volunteers involved.  We want to help all involved gain confidence and have an enjoyable experience.

The kids hear the groans and see the disappointed looks on faces.  Let’s keep it positive and friendly on the sidelines.
Regards,

Armando Gochuico
