It all started in the fall of 2002 when we were lucky enough to be asked to coach a group of what looked to us the smallest young 10/11 year old girls we had ever seen came together to form the U11 Girls WWP Celtics, this became apparent when we started playing other teams and everyone looked about a foot taller than all of our girls!
Our first season was a particularly tough season but what struck us the most was the strength of character the girls showed to keep coming back and never giving up no matter what happened on the field. Spring of 2003 finally saw us win our first travel game of soccer and everyone will never forget the look of joy/happiness in their eyes and the parents being finally able to give them a guard of honor of the field!
By the end of our first full season we knew then we had a special group of young ladies and wanted to see how long we could keep this team going.
The next season saw us win a few more games and also compete in our first Sunburst and gain a coupe of credible draws against teams from higher flights. Progress was been made but even more importantly the girls were enjoying themselves and learning a bit more about soccer along the way.
Under 13s brought us our first tournament win at Spookarama, what a turnaround from 2 years previously.
Under 14/15 the team really began to take shape and was when we competed in the State Cup for the first time and what a display the team put in everyone playing 120% above their already high standards.
By Under 16 we played flight 1 for the first time and the team we have then is pretty much still intact today, everyone began to play their natural positions and began to really jell and play some wonderful football.
Under 17 was a tough year as we knew it would be with Junior year and all that entails but towards the end of the season we began to turn the results around.
This led us to our final season and what a season it has been, some memorable games/wins and like the previous years always trying to play soccer the right way and above all making sure they never let themselves, their team-mates, coaches, parents and WWPSA down.
The Celtics are a credit to their parents, to WWPSA, to the Celtics, but above all to themselves, they have never waivered from their beliefs, they have always acted with dignity, sportsmanship, they have always fought hard and fair and above all they have always taken care of each other and never let anyone get away with anything against their fellow team mates.
We have absolutely no doubt they will achieve what ever they want to in their futures as they have displayed over and over again their willingness to work hard, keep trying and keep pushing themselves to get better and better.
We all wish the graduating seniors of the Celtics the best in everything they do and will see them on the fields in the not too distant future.
The Graduating Celtics include Alexandra Werth, Alicia Franklin, Amanda Lewis, Amy Murphy, Anika Maram, Ariel Eland, Daisy Ngige, Emily Comerford, Emily Meshuamr, Emma Rosen, Grace Garbini, Helene Strange, Keighly Bradbrook, Lara Wilder, Sara DeSiminie, Sarah Russell, Sophia Mostowy and Sua Guo.
