The Boys U11 Anacondas struggled to start their fall season, digging themselves into a hole by going 1-2. A rash of injuries also left the team with minimal substitutions during a number of games, but the team never faltered thereafter. Under the training of Zizo Sharif, the Anacondas went on a 6-0-1 streak to win flight # 6 in MNJYSA. Highlighting the turnaround, they achieved three consecutive shutouts to finish the season.
Starting Goalie Thomas Vivona continued his strong play with a dominant 2nd half performance against Somerset Hills on Nov 22nd. Thomas stopped 3 point-blank opportunities to seal the shutout.
The superb defensive line of Tyler Mathis, Sam Stevens and Lucas Jacques kept the opponent’s opportunities to a minimum throughout the season. This line’s play was instrumental in preserving the shutouts and wins.
Selyan Lonqueux and Griffin Valentine’s defensive midfield play was tremendous. They continued to push the play into the offensive zone, yet also recovered to mark-up opponents while on defense.
Jordan Mitchell, Michael Miranda, Kent DePasquale and KK Owusu stood out for their center midfield play. These players did a great job of feeding the wings and setting up scoring opportunities.
Nasser Qadan and Garrett Patla ran the wings and created opportunities with their strong crosses. Garrett’s scoring touch came into play with 4 goals in the last 3 games.
Forward Takeru Tokui finished the season on a high note with the 1st goal in the final game. This goal set the tone for the game.
Sahil Thube’s athleticism came through with goals and strong play throughout the season. Unfortunately, Sahil broke two bones in his foot during a key game against the Clark Eagles. He should be healed in time for the spring season.
Driss Lonqueux, the younger brother of teammate Selyan, was the offensive force for the Anacondas this fall. He led the team in goals even though he missed a few games with injuries. Luckily, Driss is back and in good health.
The team is looking forward to some well-earned rest and getting back onto the fields in 2010.
