Injury Plagued Challenge Loses Championship On PKs
Over the weekend the WWP Challenge U-14 girls competed in the top flight of the EPIC Tournament (Yardley, PA). The Challenge opened with a 1-0 victory against CRUSA and a 1-1 tie versus CDSA. Both matches were  played with poor field conditions, however, the Challenge dominated play but struggled to capitalize on their multiple scoring opportunities. In Sunday’s semi-final against the Princeton Orange Crush, once again the Challenge controlled a majority of the play but struggled to find the back of the net.  As a result regulation play and overtime ended in a 1-1 tie and the Challenge advanced on penalty kicks. With less than an hour break and mounting injuries (5 players), the Challenge entered the finals against VE Velocity a top ranked PA team. Both teams battled hard during regulation time with the Challenge having a slight advantage in play and the best scoring chance (crossbar). With the score 0-0 the game went into overtime but neither team could capitalize. An exhausted Challenge squad lost on penalty kicks.
