Referee Assignments

During the Fall Recreational season (10 weeks), referee assignments are completed on a weekly basis. Games are played on Saturday mornings. Referees are typically assigned one or two games per week. Senior and Intermediate leagues are normally assigned more experienced and mature referees while new and younger referees will be assigned to the younger leagues. Wherever possible, assignments avoid referees officiating in games with players who are the same age or older.

Each Tuesday during the season, an email message is distributed to all eligible referees requesting their availability for the following Saturday. The deadline for response is Wednesday at midnight. On Thursday, assignments are distributed again via email. As much as possible, assignments will take into account individual requests (for example, for referees who live within walking distance of specific field locations).  Referees are required to reconfirm their assignments. Only then is the assignment considered firm.

At the completion of each game, referees will complete a Game Card recording the date and location of the game, the league and the final score. The Game Card will be collected and salary will be paid accordingly. Salary will be paid every 2 to 3 weeks during the season with the final payment around the end of November for any outstanding salary due.

Prior to the beginning of the season, a meeting will be held to review procedures and to answer any questions referees may have. The meeting will be announced via email and will take place in late August/ early September.  Attendance is mandatory.
