Referee Courses
How to become a WWPSA Referee

WWPSA Referees are required to complete an entry-level Grade 9 Course. The Grade 9 licensing session will equip you to referee recreation soccer games from 4th Grade up to the Intermediate League. Referees interested in officiating Senior League and Travel games are required to complete the Grade 8 Course.

You must be at least 12 years of age to referee. There is a $15 fee to take the Grade 9 class. At the end of the class a 50 question test will be administered. If you pass, it costs $20 to register as a referee (you need to bring a check to the class). With this registration, you will become an official referee.

Courses are posted on the New Jersey referee web site at www.njrefs.com.  Periodically, WWPSA hosts courses in West Windsor Plainsboro. Details of those courses are posted on this site and are announced to eligible members of our Association via email. To find a class and to register, go to the New Jersey referee web site at www.njrefs.com, under Courses.

Paid Referee Positions Available

The Association needs referees. Refereeing is an excellent way to make money while staying involved in the sport you love. Referees are needed for both recreation and travel soccer at all age levels. In order to referee, you must be licensed. Training sessions for licensing are readily available in the area through the NJ Referee Association.

For recreational league referees, a Grade 9 license is required. The Grade 9 license preparation class lasts one day. At the end of the class, you will be able to take the Grade 9 licensing exam.

For travel league referees, a Grade 8 license is required. The Grade 8 license preparation class is two days and one evening. At the end of the class, you will be able to take the Grade 8 licensing exam.

Immediately after obtaining either license, you will be eligible to referee games. To learn more about becoming a referee and sign up for a class go to http://www.njrefs.com.
