Spring Recreational Soccer Program 2008
January 12th, 2008 - Registration Now Open

Once again, WWPSA is pleased to offer two Spring Recreational Soccer programs in 2008.

  • Pre-K boys and girls (ages 3 and up) (FULL)
  • Kindergarten through 8th grade boys and girls
Both programs will be held at Sarnoff Corporation, starting on Saturday 12th April, 2008 and ending on Saturday 21st June, 2008.

The Pre-K Program will offer a choice of three (3) 1-hour sessions on Saturday mornings run by professional trainers:
  • 9:00 AM (FULL)
  • 10:15 AM (FULL)
  • 11:30 AM (FULL)

The K-8 Program will offer a choice of two (2) 90-minute sessions on Saturday mornings run by professional trainers and volunteers:

  • 9:00 AM
  • 11:00 AM

In addition, for K-8 players, the Spring Program also includes Wednesday evening coaching sessions run by professional trainers in three (3) age-appropriate 50-minute sessions.  These sessions will be held at Zaitz Field.

  • K-1st:  4:30-5:20 PM
  • 2nd-3rd: 5:30-6.20 PM
  • 4th-8th: 6.30-7.20 PM

Program Costs

The cost for the programs are:

  • Pre-K Boys and Girls – $90 without uniform or $110 with uniform
  • K-8 Boys and Girls –  $65 without uniform or $85 with uniform

WWPSA is very mindful of the need to keep our soccer programs affordable.  We are pleased that for our K-8 players, the Spring program includes 10 weeks of Saturday and Wednesday sessions including professional trainers for as little as $65.  This amounts to a little over $3 per session.

About Uniforms

For the Fall 2007 Recreational Soccer Program, WWPSA introduced a new uniform system which including the following items:

  • 2 Shirts - 1 Green & 1 White (pre-K players receive 1 shirt only)
  • 1 Pair Shorts (Black)
  • 1 Pair Socks (Green)

Players may use their uniforms for more than one season and therefore may reuse their Fall 2007 uniforms in Spring 2008 (and also in Fall 2008). Players who own a uniform from the Fall 2007 Recreational Soccer season may use that uniform and pay the reduced registration fee of $65. Players who need a new uniform will pay $85. This new uniform may then be used again in the Fall 2008 Recreational Soccer season when a discount will also be applied. All participants in the Spring Rec program must wear WWPSA uniforms.

K-8 Saturday Sessions

The primary goal of our Saturday sessions is to provide an unstructured yet safe and fun environment for our players. Following warm up activities delivered by our professional trainers, there will be small-sided pick-up games where we let the kids simply play.

While we try not to place too many limitations on these pick-up games, we will separate boys and girls in the 4th-8th grades in response to our experience in 2007. We hope that this decision will encourage as many girls in 4th through 8th grades to participate as possible.

Volunteers

We are seeking the following volunteers to help us to provide the Spring Recreational Soccer Program:

Pre-K (Saturdays)
Pre-K sessions are run entirely by professional trainers. Therefore, parent coaches are not involved. However, we do need your help in the following positions:

Spring Pre-K Program Coordinator to help respond to questions and with organization tasks including uniform distribution.

K-8th (Saturdays)

Coaches: On Saturdays, the two (2) 90-minute sessions will begin with developmental soccer activities under the direction of our professional trainers in age-appropriate groups as follows:

    • Kindergarten
    • 1st Grade
    • 2nd & 3rd Grades
    • 4th-8th Grades

Following these training sessions, players will be divided into small groups for pick-up games. We need volunteer parent coaches to help supervise these pick-up games. No coaching is required. In fact, our goal for the pick-up games is to "Let Them Play," simply to  enjoy playing the game in an informal setting.

Volunteer coaches who are interested to develop their coaching skills will be encouraged to work together with the professional trainers for the warm-up sessions. In addition, there will be an additional Coaches Clinic on April 12th between sessions (10:30-11:00 AM) to help give the coaches the guidance they need to make them more effective at teaching the game.

Uniform Distribution: At the beginning of the season, we will require a number of volunteers to assist with uniform distribution.

If you are interested to volunteer to help run the Spring Rec Program, please contact John Slater at SpringRec@wwpsa.org.
