THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE - Have fun, watching and playing soccer safely.

Parking: For the safety of the children please only park in designated parking areas. Do not park or stop on the sides of roads or on the grass.

FIFA Soccer Laws apply except as modified below. Changes compared to 7-8th grade are marked in red text.

Game Format: Games use a single field using a 11v11 format.

Law 1 - Field and Goals: Field approximately 360 x 210 feet (120 x 70 yards) with 8 x 24 foot goals and center line.

  • Please pick up all trash, equipment and clothing, etc. after your practice or game.

  • If fields are unlined, please walk off the field marking corners, center line and goals with flat cones.

  • Please do not allow playing, climbing or hanging on the soccer goal posts or netting. Goals falling on people can cause serious injury.

  • When practicing, use cones for goals. Do not move the goals or using the goal mouth areas, these areas are often in poor shape and will get worse if used in practice.

Law 2 - Ball: Size 5

Law 3 - Players: Maximum of 18 players per team playing 11v11 games. One of the 11 players is a goalkeeper.

If a team cannot field enough players, teams should loan players or adjust the number of players playing on BOTH teams so the teams have the same number of players on the field and if appropriate use cones to adjust the field size.

Goalkeepers are used

Unlimited substitutes may be called for by the team that was awarded the ball for the restart after any break in play. The opposing team cannot call for substitutes however if the team awarded the ball calls for substitutes the opposing team may also then make substitutes. Breaks in play only include throw-ins, goal-kicks, restarts from the center, and direct or indirect free kicks awarded. At all times substitutes can only enter the field of play with the permission of the referee.

All players present, except in the case of injury, must:

  • Play at least half (50%) of the game

  • Have as near equal playing time as possible compared to other players

  • Be given the opportunity to play in each position but not be forced to play in a specific position.

Law 4 - Equipment: Must wear shin guards under socks. No baseball or football shoes allowed. No jewelry, earrings or metal hair clips are allowed.

Law 5 & 6 - Referees:Referees are provided by WWPSA. Coaches and referees should meet before the game to clarify rules and appoint parents to act as assistant referees (linesmen). Coaches and Assistants may not be on the field of play during the game without the referee’s permission.

Law 7 - Duration of Game: 2 equal 45 minute halves with a 5 minute break at half time. Total game time with breaks 95 minutes.

Law 8 - Start and Restart of Play: Opposing players must be 10 yards (30 feet) from the ball for kickoffs, goal kicks, free kicks, and corner kicks. Doing so gives the players space to move and prevents bunching immediately on the restart.

Law 10 - Scoring: Let them have fun and score lots of goals. Celebrate and cheer for all goals scored.

Law 11 - Offside: Offsides rule applies.

Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct: No slide tackling allowed. All other rules apply. Referees will stop play, and apply remedy, including yellow or red cards if appropriate.

Law 14 - Penalty Kicks: Taken 10 yards from goal line. Other players must be 10 yards away.

Law 15 - Throw-in: If the player makes an illegal throw-in, the other team gets the ball and does the throw in (ball is throw with 2 hands from behind head with 2 feet on the ground, feet may be on or outside of the touch lines). Opposing players should be 2 yards (6 feet) from the player making the throw-in.

Law 16 - Goal Kick: Players may not touch the ball until it is outside the penalty box.

Law 17 - Corner Kick: Opposing players must be 10 yards (30 feet) from the ball.
