Transition from Pre-K to Kindergarten Rec Soccer
Expectations for Parents

Three years ago, WWPSA introduced the Pre-K program for players aged 3, 4 and 5. The program has been a tremendous success with more than 150 players participating each spring and fall. The program is provided entirely by professional soccer trainers who are very experienced with this age-group.

Soccer-related games and activities are presented in a fun environment by trainers who are enthusiastic, friendly, funny and, of course, able to teach some very fundamental skills.  For most of the players, it may be their first experience of any organized sport activity.

Once players "graduate" to the Kindergarten League, we hope that they will continue to learn the game in an enjoyable atmosphere.  However, for the first time, players and their parents will encounter volunteer parent coaches.

We greatly appreciate those parents who volunteer their time and bring their enthusiasm to enable all players to continue to enjoy the game of soccer. However, they are not professionally trained and therefore, parents expectations should be different.  While parents should expect their players to have fun playing soccer, they should not expect professional level training.

All of our Recreational Leagues are coached by parent volunteers.  Our Kindergarten League also is helped by volunteer Big Brothers and Big Sisters, high school aged soccer players who volunteer to work with our youngest and newest soccer players. Our Big Brothers and Big Sisters assist the parent volunteer coaches who are the primary on-field coach and supervisor.

In addition to weekend games managed by parent volunteers, WWPSA also offers midweek evening group training sessions presented by professional trainers (normally on Mondays and Wednesdays in the Fall).  Finally, for parents who do desire a full-time professional training environment, we now offer the Travel Development Academy.  Details are available on this website.

WWPSA is working to provide appropriate and affordable programs for players of all ages.  Without our volunteers, this would not be possible.  Please consider to volunteer to help - all we need is a dose of enthusiasm.  If you choose not to help in a coaching capacity, we ask that you support our volunteers by offering positive support at practices and games.

Thank you.
