Each year, WWPSA makes changes to its program and planning based on the experience of previous years, including feedback from volunteer League Managers, coaches, parents and players. For 2008, the following changes will be made:
- Introduction of an Opening Day for 2nd Grade through Senior Leagues, the goal of which is to create equity between teams for the fall season. Opening Day will take place on September 6th.
- Players may use their uniforms from Fall 2007 or Spring 2008 seasons. If they do, there will be a $20 discount from the $110 registration fee.
- 3rd Grade Leagues will play in a 5v5 format on Mini fields (same as 2nd Grade). 5th Grade Leagues will play in an 8v8 format on small-sided fields (same as 4th Grade); this includes the combined Girls 5th/6th League. The purpose of playing in smaller formats than in the past is to encourage greater participation by individual players and to enhance the enjoyment of the game.
- The 3rd Grade League will have the option to schedule a midweek practice (last year, practices were immediately prior to Saturday games).
- Greater emphasis is being placed on referees for 4th Grade and older Leagues both in terms of availability and training.
- The weather cancellation policy has been amended for Saturday games. In 2008, the decision will be made as late as 8am on Saturday morning to provide more opportunity to assess the weather when the forecast is uncertain. We will also, if necessary, make a separate decision for (a) Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd Grades (b) 3rd Grades and older. In the event of very cold weather, for example, we may cancel for younger ages but not for the older groups.
- The GoalFest 3v3 tournament will not be scheduled in place of regular Fall Rec Saturday games. Instead, it will be held on an alternative day and time.
These changes are being implemented to improve the program and, most importantly, the experience of our players.
