Answers

  1. Teams are formed by you, the parents, NOT the coaches or Rec Soccer administrators. Find your child’s teammates, friends, anyone who plays in the same Fall Rec league as your child and ask them if they want to play together in the tournament. Once you have at least 3 players (you are permitted to have as many as 6 on a team to allow for subs), register the team and pay a nominal $30 fee (works out to only $5 per player with 6 players) so that we can have contact information we can use when we need to e-mail you information about the tournament, as well as the names of all players on the team. You can find the link to register your team and their roster on the Goal Fest Home Page

If you don’t have enough players to field a team, you can e-mail us and we will do our best to find a team for your child. Back to top

  2. To keep the tournament fair to Rec players, we want to verify that every Goal Fest participant is 1) registered to play Fall Rec; and 2) is assigned to a team with players who are all playing in the same Rec League.  Back to top

  3. On the day of the event, each team is "coached" by the parent of one of the team’s players, NOT by their 2008 Fall Rec team’s coach. All you’re expected to do as a coach is get the players warmed up for their games (usually just have them kick the ball to each other, play keep-away, dribble in a confined space, etc.) and then handle substitutions during the game so that all players on the team get to participate equally and get some rest when needed, because 3v3 means a LOT of action! There’s really not much required of the parent volunteer coach, but if your team doesn’t have anyone able or willing to serve in this capacity, we’re working with our Big Brothers and Big Sisters to see whether they can fill in, where necessary, to be the team’s coach. Stay tuned for details.   Back to top

  4. Bring the white and green jerseys you were issued to play in Fall Rec. One team will wear white while the other wears green, according to their position on the schedule; the first team listed wears white, while the second team listed wears green.  Back to top

  5. Each team will play 3 games regardless of the results of previous games. All games will begin promptly every 1/2 hour.  Back to top

  6. Every player will receive a gift for participating. The top 3 teams in each age group will receive an award based on the number of game points they earn; see the Tournament Rules for details on how we compute game points.  Back to top

  7. We are holding a Rec tournament to give our Rec players a taste of the excitement that Travel players experience several times each year. We wanted our Rec players to understand the buzz, the buildup, the high-energy, fast-paced fun that is tournament play. Since the tournament is only open to registered Fall Rec players, we hope to keep the competition level similar across all age groups.  Back to top

  8. You can volunteer by e-mailing our Goal Fest Tournament Director at GoalFest@wwpsa.org.   Back to top

  9. The registration fees are meant to help ensure teams show up to play. Also, they are used to offset costs of awards, equipment rentals, etc., and are not used as a fundraiser for WWPSA.  Back to top

  10. Teams should expect LOTS of activity and action. They should arrive early at their designated field per the published schedule and check in with the Field Marshall who is assigned to check in teams and answer any questions before the action starts. Field Marshals will be clearly visible due to their yellow vests and clipboards and are assigned to manage the check-in for 4 adjacent fields. They will have a copy of the Tournament Rules to help you better understand various situations that may arise during play.

Every 1/2 hour, a horn will sound to signal the end of the existing game and the start of the next game. The referee assigned to a field will put the ball in play and blow a whistle to indicate play has begun. see the Tournament Rules for details about game length. Teams will play for 1/2 hour and then rest for 1/2 hour until they play their 3 assigned games. At the end of all games for a specific league, e.g., Boys K, Girls 1st, etc., all scores will be tallied to determine flight winners, runners-up, etc., and then awards will be given to the top 3 teams in each league, as well as participation gifts to all players.  Back to top

  11. Parents should expect there to be LOTS of hustle and bustle, so please plan to arrive early so that your team has enough time to check in and warm up so that games can start on-time. Bring a copy of your team’s schedule with you so you know when and where they are assigned to play. There will be food and drinks available for purchase, as well as tournament merchandise such as T-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, sweatpants, etc. There will be LOTS of players in one location at the same time, so bring chairs and drinks for all family members.  Back to top

  12. Each team will likely be at the field for 4 hours: (1/2 hour per game + 1/2 hour rest between games) * 3 games = 3 hours + 1 hour for warmup and the tallying of awards.  Back to top

  13. We understand that conflicts may exist for many players and teams. Due to the large number of teams, we regret that we are unable to honor individual requests for schedule changes once the schedule is released. However, for those families with more than one child in the tournament, the close proximity of fields will allow you to watch as many games as possible without having to travel to do so. We recommend that you indicate any known conflicts within your application.  Back to top

  14. The deadline to submit applications for the Goal Fest 2008 3v3 Tournament is 11:59 pm on October 12, 2008. Our online application system will automatically close at that time and we will accept no further applications for the current year’s tournament, so please be sure to submit your information before time runs out!  Back to top

  15. Any registered Rec player is eligible to participate, even if they also play Travel. However, in the spirit of Rec soccer, we ask that Travel players do not play with other Travel players in the tournament. It’s not a hard-and-fast rule, but we hope that people keep the spirit of Rec soccer in mind when forming teams.  Back to top
