The 2nd Annual Goal Fest 3v3 Tournament was held on Sunday, October 26, 2008, with 60 enthusiastic teams and another beautiful day to spoil all attendees. The 3v3 format ensured lots of action, touches by all teammates and goals, which was exactly the point!
Ethan Zohn, the winner of Survivor: Africa and founder of Grassroot Soccer United - a charity formed to use the worldwide power of soccer to raise HIV / AIDS awareness in Africa - came by to join our fun and help the kids celebrate by handing out the medals to the top 3 teams in each age group and flight. Special thanks to Lucas Richardson who, along with Ethan, made our event so much fun and helped communicate the message and purpose of Grassroot Soccer to our attendees. Also, we wish to thank Christian Raniszewski of PUMA who provided tournament support and connected us with Ethan and Lucas to add to the tournament feel. Check out Ethan’s blog at http://www.vtsports.com/dribble/blog for his summary of the tournament and some kind words about our Club.
Thanks, of course, to all of the dedicated volunteers who, as always, selflessly contributed parts or all of their day to make the kids’ experience as fun and as safe as possible. For those of you who stayed the entire day: THANK YOU! John Slater, our Director of Recreational Soccer, provided valuable HQ support and enjoyed his second Goal Fest experience. In addition, thanks to all of our Big Brother / Big Sister volunteers who capably served as Field Marshals and filled in wherever needed. We’d also like to thank World Bagel who supplied our attendees with coffee, muffins, drinks, and, of course, bagels!
