Frequently Asked Questions

Read below to see our responses to some common questions we have been asked about the WWPSA Adult Recreational program:

Q: Do I need to be part of a team to participate?
A: No. You may register as an individual and you will be assigned to a team. Back to top

Q: A few of my friends and I would like to play together as a team. Can we do this?
A: Yes. When you register, simply add a note in the comments indicating the team such as "Jack’s Team" and you will be placed together. Back to top

Q: I have only a few players. Is this enough for a team?
A: No but we will assign additional players so that your team will have enough players. Back to top

Q: What will happen if the teams are not balanced?
A: This is an informal recreational soccer program to be played in "pick-up" style. The best situation will be if teams are balanced and every game is competitive. If 1 or more teams are too strong, we may adjust the teams during the season. Back to top

Q: I am 45 years old. I haven’t played for a few years. I am reasonably healthy and fit but I am afraid to be matched up against teams of 20-somethings?
A: Many participants in the program have a similar story. Competitive 20-somethings, while very welcome, are not too likely to join an adult recreational pick-up program if they are more used and able to play competitive 11-a-side. Back to top

Q: Games are on Saturday afternoons. I may not be able to play every week. Is this an issue?
A: No. Games will be 8-a-side but we are planning on rosters of 11 to 18 players. This is based on the expectation that 1 or 2 players will be missing each week due to other commitments. Back to top

Q: What happens if fewer than 8 players from my team turn up one week?
A: We will find you extra players so that your game can continue. This is not the major leagues - just an afternoon pick-up game. Back to top

Q: I am not sure if I will be able to play for the entire time - is that a problem?
A: No. The format of unlimited substitutions works very easily. Once you get tired you leave the field (at any time during the game) and a replacement enters the field. Some players will be able to play for 50 minutes, others for only 20. It’s up to you. Back to top

Q: If a Game is Cancelled, will we have makeups?
A: Games are only cancelled on account of weather or poor field conditions caused by bad weather.  The schedule has been developed assuming that every Saturday has good weather.  Make up games are not included in the schedule.  Since we play on Saturday afternoons, and there are no extra weekends in the schedule, we will not have make up games. Q: How do I register?
A: Click here to register. Follow the online registration instructions and then choose your preferred method of payment. If paying by check, make your check out to "WWPSA - Adult Recreational" and then send it to WWPSA, Attn: Adult Recreational Registration, PO Box 757, West Windsor, NJ 08550. Back to top

Q: What do I have to lose?
A: A few dollars, a few pounds, and some soccer games that don’t count. Other than that, it’s a win-win. Back to top
