WWPSA Adult Team Places 3rd at the 2008 NY Saint Patrick's Day Cup
WWPSA Proudly Wears Green in New York
On Saturday 3/15/2008, nine brave players from the WWPSA Adult Program represented the club at the 2008 edition of the Saint Patrick’s Day Cup in Brooklyn, New York.  The team played in the over-30 8v8 bracket and finished the tournament in third place with a record of 2-1-1.  The tournament had participation from soccer clubs that traveled across the U.S, Canada and Europe to compete for the Cup.   The team proudly wore its green club colors and put WWPSA on the map of international competition.  Team members included defenders Mike Donnelly (Hon. Captain), David Ruppe, and Andre Maglione; midfielders Pedro Portilla (Captain), Joe Lawson, Edgar Cano and Murat Unluer; and forward Paul Moorcroft.

The defensive line led by Andre Maglione, Michael Donnelly and David Ruppe kept the matches tight, and goalie Brent Adams had some fantastic stops at goal.  With only one substitution, the midfielders, led with poise by Edgar Cano in the center and speedy players Pedro Portilla, Joe Lawson and Murat Unluer maintained a steady and fierce attack.  Player Paul Moorcroft, coming off a twelve week layoff due to an injury, showed tenacity and strength in the forward position upon his return and was ecstatic to get back into action.   Joe Lawson was unamimously awarded the goal of the tournament as well as the fastest goal ever scored to date with a goal from the half field line just three seconds after kickoff.  His goal caught the International Canadian team, Glasgow United, totally by surprise.  Overall, this was a great experience and a proud showing for WWPSA.   Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!
